Save and Add to Cart

A shopper who clicks Add to Cart leaves your configurator. With this setting on, one click saves their whole design, emails them a link that reopens it, and adds exactly that design to their Shopify cart. If they press Back, their configuration is still there.

Enterprise plan, Configurator and Modular projects, selling through Shopify. WooCommerce keeps its normal Add to Cart. With the setting off, nothing changes.

Turn it on

  1. 1Connect the project to a Shopify product, as in the Shopify guide.
  2. 2Set up Project Settings → Email, so the link can be sent from your address.
  3. 3Open Project Settings → Advanced → Save and add to cart, and switch it on.
  4. 4Choose whether Name is required, and how to ask for Phone: Don't ask, Optional or Required. Email is always required: it is where the link goes.
  5. 5Optionally offer a marketing checkbox. It is off until the shopper ticks it, and saving a design never depends on it.
  6. 6Open your store and try it once from start to finish.

On a store using the Simplio3D app for Shopify, the blocks need the app version that includes this. Until then they keep the normal Add to Cart.

What your shopper sees

The button reads Save and add to cart, whatever your Add to Cart field was called. It opens a short form with one action, then shows its progress: saving, adding, sending the link. The email has an Open your design button that reopens everything they chose: options, sizes, text, uploaded images, patterns, designs and module layouts.

When something goes wrong

What failedWhat the shopper sees
The form is incompleteWhat is missing. Nothing is sent.
An option is no longer availableA request to review their choices. Nothing is saved yet.
The saveThey stay on the page with everything they typed, and can try again.
Adding to the cartTheir design is saved, with its link on screen. Trying again doesn't save or email twice.
The emailIt's in their cart. The link is on screen, with Copy link and Send the email again.

Editing a saved design

A saved design never changes. When a shopper opens their link and edits it, saving makes a new copy with its own link, and the form tells them so. An item already in their cart stays exactly as it was. Saving the same design twice adds it once. For more of the same, they raise the quantity: on the product page before adding again, or in the cart. The same design in another variant is its own line.

What reaches Shopify

Every line carries the design's reference, and the configuration text starts with Design: REFERENCE. Contact details go only where Shopify has a supported way to take them, and that depends on your checkout type:

Checkout typeNameEmailPhone
Cart linkPrefilled at checkoutPrefilled at checkoutNo: Shopify has no way to pass it
SKU-matched cartPrefilled at checkoutPrefilled at checkoutNo
Draft orderNoOn the draft orderOn the draft order, only in international format (+40721234567)
Simplio3D app for Shopify, standard cartNoNoNo: Shopify's storefront cart doesn't accept them
Prefilling isn't a customer account: the shopper can change what's filled in, and Shopify links the customer at checkout. Everything they entered is always in Dashboard → Saved Configurations.

Finding a design from an order

Search the reference from the order in Dashboard → Saved Configurations. You'll find the design, the shopper's contact details, whether they agreed to marketing, and a link that opens the design. You can resend the email up to three times. Sending marketing is up to you, and only to shoppers marked Marketing OK. Build from the order: the link is for reopening the design.
