Advanced Pricing: Markup, Tiers, Discounts, Charges, Shipping & Tax
Six pricing blocks turn a configurator into a full quote: price from your own cost, lower prices for bigger quantities, discounts, setup and labor charges, shipping options and VAT or sales tax — all calculated in the right order and shown to shoppers as a clear, itemized price.
How the price is built
Every price is calculated in the same order. Open Pricing mode and expand How the price is built at the top of the list to see which of your blocks sit in each step — click a step to jump to its block.
| Step | What happens | Blocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Item prices | Your formula (or the sum of your item blocks) gives the price of ONE configured unit. | Base Price, Price Group, Price Table, Variable, Unique Price, Markup / Margin, per-unit Tier Pricing |
| 2. × Quantity | The unit price is multiplied by the order quantity (1 unless you choose a source). | Order quantity, order-level Tier Pricing |
| 3. Discounts | Percent or amount off the subtotal or selected items. | Discount |
| 4. Charges | Setup, labor, installation or surcharge — once per order or per unit. | Charge |
| 5. Shipping | A delivery price, a zone the shopper picks, a weight band, pickup or "quoted separately". | Freight |
| 6. Tax | VAT, sales tax or GST at the rates you enter. | Tax |
Order quantity
By default shoppers configure one item. To let them order several, expand How the price is built, set Order quantity to Shopper chooses and pick where the number comes from: a Number Input block (for example a "Quantity" field, or all the sizes of a team order added together), the number of placed modules, the number of ticked checkboxes, or a pricing variable.
- 1Add a Number Input option block named "Quantity" (minimum 1).
- 2In Pricing mode, expand "How the price is built" and choose "Shopper chooses".
- 3Under "Read the quantity from", pick the Quantity block.
- 4The unit price, per-unit charges and per-unit discounts are now multiplied by it. One-time charges such as a setup fee are not.
Markup / Margin — price from your cost
Enter what one configured unit costs you and let Simplio3D work out the sell price. Markup on cost adds a percentage on top (cost 100 + 40% = 140). Target margin prices for a gross margin (cost 100 at a 40% margin = 166.67, because 40% of the price is profit). Options that change your cost get their own cost under Your cost (private).
Tier Pricing — lower prices for bigger quantities
| Pricing style | How it works | Example (tiers 1–9 = 20, 10–49 = 15, 50+ = 12) |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | The whole quantity gets the price of the tier it reaches. | 25 units → 25 × 15 = 375 |
| Graduated | Each tier prices only the units inside it. | 25 units → 9 × 20 + 16 × 15 = 420 |
| Package | Each tier is a fixed price for the whole quantity range. | 25 units → 15 (the 10–49 package) |
- 1Choose what to count — the order quantity, a Number Input block, placed modules, ticked checkboxes or a variable. Quantities count across everything the shopper picks (for example every size of a team order).
- 2Choose whether the tier price is charged per configured unit (it becomes the unit price) or once for the order.
- 3Fill the tier table. Leave the last row as "and above" so every quantity has a price.
- 4Optional: under "Replace other prices", pick the Base Price (or another item price) so the tier price replaces it instead of being added on top.
- 5Use "Try a quantity" at the bottom of the block to check the result.
Discount
Percent off or Amount off (per order or per unit), applied to The whole subtotal or to Selected prices only. Under When it applies you can require an option, a minimum quantity or a minimum subtotal.
| With other discounts | What the shopper gets |
|---|---|
| Combine | Combined discounts apply one after another, in the order of your list (10% then 5% = 14.5% off). |
| Best deal only (exclusive) | The shopper gets whichever is better: all combined discounts together, or the single best exclusive discount. |
Discounts never reduce charges, shipping or tax, and never go below zero.
Charge — setup, labor, installation, surcharge
| Type of charge | Typical setup |
|---|---|
| Setup | Fixed amount, once per order — never multiplied by the quantity. |
| Labor | Quantity × rate, for example hours × hourly rate (point it at a Number Input holding the hours). |
| Installation | Fixed amount once per order, often with a condition (only when "Installation" is selected). |
| Surcharge | A percentage of the subtotal (before or after discounts). |
Each block shows what customers pay for 1 and for 10 units so you can see at a glance whether a charge repeats per unit.
Freight — shipping options
| Delivery method | What the shopper sees |
|---|---|
| Flat rate | One shipping price, per order or per unit. |
| By destination | A list of zones (e.g. Domestic, EU, Rest of world) — the shopper picks one in the price summary. |
| By weight | A price per weight band. Weight = (base weight + chosen options' weights) × quantity. |
| Pickup | Free collection. |
| Quote it | "Shipping is quoted separately" — the price is marked as needing a quote. |
Tax — VAT, sales tax, GST
- 1Add a Tax block and pick the kind (VAT, Sales tax, GST or Other) — this sets the label only.
- 2Enter the tax rate that applies to your business. Simplio3D never presets or guesses a rate.
- 3Choose whether your prices already include tax ("Include tax") or tax is added on top ("Exclude tax").
- 4Under "What is taxable", choose items, charges and shipping, and exclude any item prices that are not taxed.
- 5For two taxes (e.g. GST + PST) add a second Tax block; each is calculated on the same base.
Tax blocks replace the single tax rate in Project Settings > Pricing. When you add your first Tax block, it starts from that rate, and the block offers a one-click button to turn the old setting off.
What shoppers see
The price summary in Preview and on your Share link lists the unit price, the quantity, each discount, charge, shipping and tax line, and the total. When something is missing it says so instead of showing a zero:
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Total | Everything is known — this is the final price. |
| Estimated total | The store's checkout finalizes tax and shipping, or a tax exemption is waiting for your review. |
| Pending | Something is needed first — a quantity, a delivery choice, or a tax rate you have not entered. |
| Quote required | Shipping (or another part) is quoted separately. |
Quotes, PDFs and checkout
| Where | Who finalizes tax and shipping |
|---|---|
| Quote requests, emails, PDFs, the API | Simplio3D calculates everything, including tax and shipping. Quote requests are re-priced on the server so the figures can be trusted. |
| Add to Cart (Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress) | Your store's checkout. Simplio3D sends the price after discounts plus charges, and your store adds its own shipping and tax — so nothing is charged twice. Shoppers see tax and shipping as estimates. |
Checks
The header of How the price is built shows how many checks need attention — for example a Tax block with no rate, a tier table without an "and above" row, a discount limited to items with none selected, or a step block placed inside the formula. Click a check to open the block. The same checks are returned by the AI Assistant and by AI connections (validate_project).
